Bishopville woman pleads guilty to defrauding Social Security Administration

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Earnestine Lowery, 65, plead guilty to theft of government funds according to U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles.

The Bishopville woman, according to officials, continued to collect benefits intended for her late mother until January 2014. Lowery's mother passed away in May 2008. In total, Lowery collected over $50,000 in benefits.

Nettles said the maximum penalty for theft of government funds is 10 years in prison and/or a fine of $250,000.
