Saturday marks the 20-year anniversary when a tornado severely damaged neighborhoods throughout Lexington County.

The EF3 tornado was spotted near the BI-LO Shopping Plaza off U.S. Highway 378.

Following the storm, 85-year-old Alice Harmon shared memories of her husband calling to warn her about the severe storm and how she made it through.

"When I went to the basement, I was shaking and crying and praying," Harmon said in the interview. "And I think the Lord -- I know the Lord was with me."

Then-Sheriff James Metts helped first responders organize efforts to ensure the safety of county residents keeping them safe from harm.

The storm left many without electricity for close to four days. The storm also left 40 people hurt in its wake.
