His story has been shared throughout the Midlands as one about the tenacity of faith, hope, and modern medicine.

Richard Culliver, 8, who was seemingly in the midst of a miraculous recovery from an almost deadly brain tumor, has a new tumor, according to the "Richard's Journey" Facebook page.

"He as a new tumor lower in his brainstem and it's taking him very quickly," Richard's mother, Stephanie McMillan, writes.

Richard was 7 when he was first diagnosed with a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a particularly severe and inoperable brain tumor that is difficult to treat.

The boy's family didn't think he'd make it past December 2012, but aggressive treatment caused the tumor to shrink almost entirely.

But now, a new battle begins for Richard and his mother as this new tumor sounds tougher than the one before it.
