A Lexington County sheriff's deputy was involved in a collision Thursday night in Gaston.

Lexington County Sheriff A. Lewis McCarty said a deputy, who had activated his blue lights and siren on his patrol vehicle, was responding to a call when the collision occurred near Highway 321 and Mack Street around 7 p.m.

A passenger in the second vehicle was taken to the hospital, McCarty said.

McCarty said the deputy involved in the crash was driven in a patrol car to the hospital as a precaution.

"The deputy and the woman do not appear to have suffered serious injuries," McCarty said.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the events leading up to the crash.
