MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

Bond was denied Friday morning for the 33-year-old man arrested in a fatal stabbing at the Belk store in Mount Pleasant Towne Centre.

Dennis Elvin Cervantes-Pavon was arrested late Thursday afternoon for the Wednesday night stabbing of Raymond Muniz, 28, who died at East Cooper Medical Center.

According to police, Cervantes-Pavon was located on the Isle of Palms and transported back to Mount Pleasant. Officials with the Isle of Palms Police Department say their department along with personnel from Public Works located the suspect and turned him over to the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

An arrest warrant for murder was issued for Cervantes-Pavon after Muniz died of his injuries Wednesday evening.

Authorities say the stabbing happened inside the Belk department store on 1218 Belk Drive around 5:51 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to police, the Cervantes-Pavon and Muniz were construction workers who were working on renovations in the store when an altercation between the two led to the stabbing.

An affidavit states that Cervantes-Pavon used a sharp weapon to stab Muniz in the chest above his heart.

An incident report states several witnesses saw Cervantes-Pavon running through the parking lot towards Venning Road on Hungry Neck Blvd.

Officers say Muniz was found lying on the grass next to Belk on Hungry Neck Blvd bleeding form the chest. Several construction workers surrounded the unresponsive victim and applied pressure to the wound.

Court records state that numerous co-workers identified Cervantes-Pavon through in-store surveillance footage from Belk.

According to police, officers searched nearby roads including Labor Camp and Venning roads for Cervantes-Pavon who investigators said at the time may have been armed with a knife.

"This is not an incident where they did not know each other. Where the victim and the suspect were not acquainted...they were, they did know each other," said Inspector Chip Googe. "This is an isolated incident that is not normal for Mount Pleasant."

Several police officers were spotted going into Belk to investigate the incident Wednesday afternoon. Googe said that police had also set up a perimeter in areas where they think the suspect may be, and canines and a helicopter assisted in the search.
