BELTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The parents of Chase Lee Bryant said that their 3-year-old has passed away from his injuries on Sunday, after being hit by an SUV.

Belton Police Chief Tommy Clamp said that Bryant was hit by a Ford SUV on Anderson Street around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Clamp said the SUV was traveling east toward the city square when it appears the toddler stepped into the roadway and into the path of the vehicle.

Chase was airlifted to the hospital on Saturday, where he was listed in critical condition, according to Clamp.

The driver of the SUV, Jennifer Hess, of Belton, was charged with driving under suspension, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper vehicle license, Clamp said.

Belton Police and the SC Highway Patrol are investigating.

Clamp said the cause of the crash was still under investigation.

Family of the boy set up a donation account under the name "Chase Bug Fund" at Wells Fargo in Anderson.

They said there will also be a hot dog, pizza and baked goods sale and a cruise-in benefit for Chase at Tint Plus in Anderson on Friday from 6-9 p.m. Tint Plus is located at 5703 Highway 76.
