COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - One of the men wounded in an officer-involved shooting at the Brook Pines Apartment complex on Brook Pine Drive has been identified and hit with a number of charges.
The Lexington County Sheriff's Department says Keylan Durham, 22, is charged with shoplifting, carjacking, armed robbery, assault, kidnapping, and weapons possession.
Agents from SLED, the Richland County Sheriff's Department, and the Columbia Police Department were attempting to serve a warrant on Durham and a second unidentified suspect on Wednesday for a Harbison Boulevard carjacking when the situation quickly turned south.
According to investigators, Durham and the other suspect attempted to escape agents and hit a Columbia police officer with a car in the process.
At that point, agents opened fire on Durham. Both the officer and Durham were treated for non-life threatening injuries at a nearby hospital.
Durham was released and is currently sitting in the Lexington County Detention Center to await a bond hearing.
Lexington County has taken over the investigation into this incident at the request of Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook, and SLED. Lexington County officials say this is to avoid any "conflicts of interest, questions of impropriety, or favoritism on the part of all agencies involved."
The case continues to be investigated.
