KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A man who had three kids in his car was charged with DUI and child endangerment Monday night after a trooper pulled him over in Lugoff.

Jail records show 51-year-old Kamalkant Patel of Lugoff was booked into the Kershaw County Detention Center just before 10:30 p.m.

A spokesperson for the South Carolina Highway Patrol says a trooper pulled Patel over for suspicion of driving under the influence near the intersection of U.S. 1 and Lachicotte Road.

Lance Corporal David Jones says there were three juveniles, including Patel's child, in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop. One of the passengers was 14. Jones was not able to supply the ages of the other two.

Jones says Patel was arrested after failing a field sobriety test. Patel did not complete a breath test, Jones said.

The three juvenile passengers were released to their parents.

Patel was also charged with driving without a South Carolina driver's license.
