BELLEVILLE, IL (NBC News) - An Illinois man is in jail, accused of sticking sewing needles into packages of meat in a grocery store.

Court documents show Ronald Avers is accused of sliding sewing needles into packaged meat like ground beef, roasts and pork chops from May 2013 to this July at a Shop 'n Save grocery store.

The court documents state he confessed telling officials he "didn't know why he did it ... just for the hell of it."
