CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Clemson Police Chief Jimmy Dixon said they are investigating a possible drowning after a man reported missing was found dead in Lake Hartwell.

Dixon said the man was reported missing on Tuesday afternoon.

His body was found floating in Lake Hartwell at the border of Pickens and Oconee counties along Highway 23 later in the day by family, according to Dixon.

Dixon said it is a death investigation at this time.

Pickens County Coroner Deputy Coroner Gary Duncan identified the man as James Davis, 50, of Clemson. Davis' body was taken to the hospital for autopsy working to determine if he drowned.

Family said Davis had been taken to the hospital with mental issues during the weekend and was released the same night, upset he was not kept longer. They said they had not seen him since then.
