TAYLORS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A woman is facing a murder charge after her husband was fatally stabbed.

Around 9 p.m. Saturday deputies arrived at The Granite at Taylors apartment complex and found a man dead with a stab wound to the chest, according to Sgt. Jennings Autrey.

Autrey said investigators learned an argument took place between the victim and his wife, 27-year-old Ramona Gilmore, which led to the stabbing.

Coroner Parks Evans identified the victim as Lawrence Montrel Bress.

Evans said an autopsy confirmed Bress died from a stab wound to the chest, ruling his death a homicide.

Neighbors said they've heard yelling coming from their apartment before.

Bress' cousin, Tara Bress-Holden, said Gilmore had been abusive. She said that Gilmore kept Bress away from his family; they only visited once in about three years and Gilmore had to sneak off to speak to his three children on the phone.

"We seen signs of this coming with her attitude with her being so controlling and demanding and not allowing him to have anything to do with his family," Bress-Holden said. "And of course, we've had conversations trying to get him to walk away from the relationship. But for whatever reason, you know, you can't choose who people choose to love."

On Wednesday, investigators charged Gilmore with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to Autrey. Warrants said Gilmore acted with "a forethought and malice to commit this crime."

Gilmore had been arrested July 20, charged with being a fugitive from justice.

Gilmore went before a bond court judge on Wednesday night. She is being held without bond until she sees a circuit court judge.

He said if convicted of the charges, Gilmore could face up to life in prison.
