SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Spartanburg mother is accused of leaving her 6-year-old daughter in a public park to play with others for about 30 minutes before she was spotted drinking alcohol on a bench, according to police.

Spartanburg police said they were called at 7:38 p.m. on Sunday to Chapel St. Park on Fremont Avenue about a child left alone.

A woman told officers she heard the woman, 40-year-old Tina Davenport, arguing with others in the park about alcohol so she told the girl to play with another child that was there, according to the police report.

The report said when the girl went to play, Davenport left with a man and the woman started timing how long she was gone.

The woman saw the man return and asked him where Davenport was, to which he replied that she was back at the apartments, the report stated. After about 25 minutes, the woman called 911.

Police said they arrived at the park moments after Davenport, who was seen drinking on a park bench. When they spoke to her, police said Davenport admitted to having a bottle of vodka in her purse and having left her child in the park.

According to the report, Davenport smelled of alcohol, her speech was slurred and she was yelling loudly. Police said they found an empty bottle of vodka in her purse.

Police arrested Davenport, charging her with public drunkenness and child endangerment. They said a relative arrived and took the child into their care.
