MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/CNN) - A Minnesota man is among those grieving after losing loved ones in the Malaysia Airlines plane crash this week.

Drew Ryder says his brother and sister-in-law were on MH 17 when it was shot down in eastern Ukraine Thursday.

The pair was heading home to Australia following a trip to the Netherlands and France.

Ryder says although family members are devastated, they have also found some solace.

"It's very difficult to lose loved ones, and I'm not kidding you saying that we're hurting a lot, but we also feel very comforted by the fact that we think they're in a better place," Ryder said. “We're going to go to church, and it's going to be tough because we're going to have all these people, I can't even do it now. It's just very difficult when it becomes personal."

Two-hundred and ninety-eight people were on board the flight when it crashed.

So far, officials say only 233 of the bodies have been recovered.

The U.S. has said evidence suggests a Russian-made surface-to-air missile fired from rebel territory took the plane down.
