FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputies have charged a Fayetteville man with setting fire to his girlfriend’s bed while she was in it.

Sheriff’s Fire Investigators have arrested 26-year old Michael Dwan Hall, Jr. of 1900 John Hall Road, Fayetteville. Authorities say Hall used a lighter to try to set fire to the bedroom carpet of the residence he shared with his girlfriend. When those attempts failed, he used the lighter to set the bed on fire.

At the time, the couple’s two children, ages 3 years and 10 months, as well as two other adults, were inside the home and were unaware they were in danger. The incident occurred during the early morning hours Wednesday. Hall left after deputies were dispatched but before the deputies arrived on scene.

A family member said Hall told them he didn’t care that the children were inside at the time and threatened to kill all of them and burn the house to the ground.

Hall surrendered to detectives Friday. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, first-degree arson and misdemeanor child abuse.

He is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a ($600,000.00 bond. Hall is expected to make a first court appearance on Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Detention Center courtroom.
