SUMTER, SC (WIS) -

A man wanted for a shooting that took place earlier this week on Sampson Street has now turned himself in.

Brandon Haynesworth, 28, turned himself in after a joint effort by the Sumter Police and his attorney.

Officials say police officers responded to a shots fired call around 8 p.m. on Tuesday when they found the victim lying on Sampson Street.

The victim was shot and taken to receive medical attention at a local hospital. Tonyia McGirt of the Sumter Police Department says the victim remains in stable condition after being transferred to a Columbia hospital as he recovers from non-life threatening injuries.

Haynesworth will be charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and felon in possession of a handgun.

Even with Haynesworth in custody, Sumter Police are still investigating the incident
