GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Iraqi teen, Salee Allawe, is thankful to have a new pair of prosthetic legs. And all of her thanks go to Shriners Hospital.

Shriners had seen Allawe in 2009 when she was hurt during a missile attack in Iraq. She returned for a visit in 2011, then again earlier this year.

Everyone at Shriners said Allawe has made tremendous progress.

"She's an incredible inspiration. Anybody that meets this young lady sees her spirit and that smile," said Ed Skewes, CPO with Shriners Hospital. "And so, she's like a magnet drawing people around her. I think that's why you've seen this interest in our community and around the world ... they see her and they fall in love with her and they want to help her."

And Allawe has enjoyed her time in Greenville.

"I love Greenville, I love South Carolina, I love the Shriners, I love Ronald McDonald House, thank you everyone," she said.

Allawe is still adjusting to walking with her new legs. She has been used to walking with prosthetic legs used for children. The new legs are a big adjustment.
