LITCHFIELD BEACH, SC (WMBF) - One Georgetown County Sheriff's Deputy who was involved in a shooting last month that resulted in the death of Valerie Harrington, 36, of Pawleys Island, remains on administrative leave, while the two other deputies involved have returned to duty.

According to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12, Georgetown County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Ashcraft Circle in the Litchfield Beach Community for a welfare check.

Sheriff's deputies were contacted by a family member concerned for Harrington's well-bring and a legal representative that she was in a bathroom with a knife threatening to harm herself.

Sheriff's deputies were unable to make contact with anyone at the residence and located the property manager who unlocked the door.

When sheriff's deputies were clearing the residence, Harrington allegedly charged the deputies with a knife.

A sheriff's deputy then used lethal force to stop Harrington, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office.

The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division was called to investigate the shooting and the crime scene.

Deputies Dawud Aswad, Brandon Siratt, and Joseph Wilson, the three who responded to the incident, were placed on administrative leave while SLED investigated.

On August 2, Dep. Aswad and Dep. Siratt were allowed to return to work, because the sheriff's office did not feel that it would hinder SLED's investigation.

Dep. Wilson remains on paid administrative leave.
