COLUMBIA, SC (WFXG) -

A group of 14 co-workers from the Kimberly-Clark plant in Beech Island are splitting a $1 million Powerball prize won in last Wednesday night's drawing.

After taxes, each winner's take home is approximately $48,500.

Group spokesman David Adams of Warrenville accepted the check on behalf of the group that formed a year and a half ago. He says each member of the "Process Specialist Retirement Fund" contributes $5 a week for 35 chances at a Powerball jackpot.

Adams purchased the winning ticket, a quick pick, and those that came before it from the 3 Way Food Mart 6 on Pinelog Road in Warrenville. The store received a $10,000 commission for selling the ticket that successfully matched four white ball numbers and the red Powerball number on Wednesday.

One by one the workers found out they won $1 million.

"We took the ticket around to all the guys, and we just kept checking the numbers over and over again," Adams said. "We were taking pictures and high-fiving."

Excitement spilled over to Facebook, where one member posted a photo of the ticket to show everyone what a million dollar win looks like.

Adams is the youngest of the group at 48, and the oldest is 63. Many of the men have worked for 30 years or more and played hoping to win enough to retire. For now, plans are to take vacations, pay off homes, cover college tuition costs, and buy a race car.

Membership is close in the "Process Specialist Retirement Fund" pool.

"It's just us guys, and we're a tight-knit group," Adams said.

It's been three years since the area laid claim to a $1 million win. The last time was in 2011, when retailers in both Aiken and North Augusta sold million dollar winning Carolina Millionaires Club tickets.

The co-workers from Kimberly-Clark overcame steep odds of 1 in 5,153,633 to win $1 million, but fell one number short of Powerball's multi-million-dollar jackpot.

The Powerball jackpot continues to roll. Wednesday night's drawing is for an estimated $122 million, $71 million cash.

"I'm going Wednesday to buy our tickets," Adams said.
