GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A firefighter had to be taken to the hospital on Tuesday after he was injured at the scene of a Gaffney house fire, according to dispatchers.

Cherokee County dispatch said the fire was reported at a home on Fortanberry Road just after 5:50 a.m.

While on the scene of the fire, dispatch said a firefighter fell and was injured.

"One of those firefighters fell through the floor into the basement area and received some injuries," said Chief Jimmy Lamb, with Goucher White Plains Fire Department. "At this point we think they're pretty minor injuries. He's been transported to Gaffney Medical Center by our EMS system for valuation but we think he's OK right now."

Neighbors said the home had been vacant for a little more than a week and firefighters said they  have called in police to investigate the fire.

No other details on the fire have been released.
