LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Some Louisville children had to show their American pride in order to get a free ice cream cone.

Children age 12 and under who came to Dairy Del on S. Shelby Street today could get a free small ice cream cone when they recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Brenda Madison, the owner of Dairy Dell, said she just thought it would be a fun way to celebrate the holiday.

“I think it's very important,” said Madison. “We're wearing flag t-shirts and a lot of the kids and amazingly. The kids do know the Pledge of Allegiance which I'm very happy about.”

The deal was valid for on Independence Day only. There was a limit of one cone per customer.
