Warrior Run brings hundreds out to honor fallen hero

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

It's usually a little easier to find a parking spot than usual on a holiday, but that wasn't the case on Friday as hundreds gathered at CrossFit Vista on Lady Street.

The crowd came together for the Warrior Challenge to honor Deputy Ryan Rawl who was killed two years ago serving our country.

Pull-ups, weights and even the leap frog were all part of the course that two-person teams had to compete with. This year is the second time Richland County Deputies have partnered with CrossFit Vista for the event to remember and thank Rawl.

"It may have Ryan's name on it as a memorial," Ryan's father Stanley Rawl said, "but we like to celebrate those who are currently serving...the firefighters, the EMT's, the policemen, the former and current active soldiers."

While Rawl's father thanked those who spent their holiday sweating it out, participants thanked families like Ryan's.

According to Sgt. Curtis Wilson of the Richland County Sheriff's Department, the even has grown from last year and they look forward to it growing in the future.
