COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The public corruption case of a former South Carolina State University trustee is about to go to a federal jury.

The prosecution and defense plan closing statements Friday in Jonathan Pinson's trial.

Authorities say Pinson used his position as a trustee to try to get the university to buy land from a Florida developer so he could get a Porsche SUV as a thank you gift. Investigators say Pinson also paid himself money that should have gone to contractors on a government-funded project.

Pinson's lawyer said in his opening statement that Pinson didn't profit from any of the schemes alleged by prosecutors.

The defense called no witnesses, while prosecutors put on their case for nine days.
