Post 30 hosts Eames tourney this weekend

For the fifth consecutive year, American Legion baseball teams will meet in Albany to determine who is the best.

Albany's Post 30 will host the Paul Eames Memorial Tournament this weekend.

Eleven teams from Georgia, Alabama, and Florida will compete in the tourney starting Friday morning.

Post 30 baseball manager Don Norman says the best thing about this tournament is the quality of the teams that play.

"This is a top tournament, a very top tournament in the south," he says. "It's 11 teams. It's big, and we have teams from these states, and they all come, and they all have good teams."

Norman says he hopes baseball fans in south Georgia will check out the talent that will play in Albany this weekend.

"This tournament is what we are really proud of," he says. "We're looking at kids, 15-19 years old, that in a couple years are probably going to get offers from junior college and Division One schools."

All money raised during the tournament helps Post 30 provide scholarships for area students.

The tournament begins Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Paul Eames Ball Park, and runs through Sunday afternoon.
