LAURENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Laurens County deputy on his way to a fatal house fire was involved in a wreck on Monday night, according to Lt. Judy Stiles.

Stiles said the deputy was transported to Greenville Health System after wrecking near the train tracks on Highway 14 and West Main Street about 8 p.m.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the deputy was traveling west on Highway 14 when he tried to turn left onto Highway 101.  Troopers said the deputy lost control and hit the railroad crossing arm.

The deputy had a severe concussion but has been released from the hospital, Stiles said. She said he will have to be cleared by a doctor before he can come back on duty.

The fatal fire was at a home on Pleasant View Drive in Gray Court.
