Police source says missing teacher's boyfriend 'on the run'

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

The boyfriend of missing teacher Bianca Tanner is believed to be "on the run," according to a police source.

Sunday, Angelo Grayson Smith Jr. was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor after Tanner's three-year-old son told police he saw Smith abuse his mother.

The arrest warrant came two weeks after Bianca Tanner disappeared. Tanner was a teacher in the Greensboro and recently moved to Charlotte with her three-year-old son.

Customers at Anderton's Barbershop near Smith's apartment had advice for Smith.

"If the boyfriend has the safety and the finding of the individual as his top priority, he would have come in," said customer Jason Brown.

"I think it is a police tactic to bring him in and give them an opportunity to talk with him and get more information," said customer Pernell Miller.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are calling the case a homicide and say Smith was the last person to see Tanner. Smith has not been named as a suspect but detectives say they want to talk with him about the case.

Tanner's family said they did not know about the arrest warrant and would like to know more details.  They came back to Charlotte Sunday to search again for the missing mother.

They passed out fliers and posted signs in north Charlotte near the couple's Druid Hills neighborhood.

There is a $5,000 reward for information that could solve this case.
