The Chapin Town Council approved the mayor's new contract for a utility attorney Wednesday.

Councilwoman Kay Hollis said the mayor also paid the attorney what he is owed, $7,500.

The contract was drafted by the town for legal services relating to its water and sewer utilities.

Back in December, the town's attorney, David Knight requested the council approve a contract naming him utility attorney.

But Mayor Skip Wilson took issue with Knight also representing the town as a municipal lawyer and confusing terms relating to payment and agreements.

Last month, Knight agreed to have the town draft a new contract.
