Code Orange Air Quality Alert in effect for Monday as temps creep into 90s

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

WBTV Meteorologist Al Conklin says we hit 89 degrees in Charlotte on Father's Day, and that will likely be the lowest high temperature we see all week.

A ridge of high pressure is setting up over our part of the county - that means hot and humid conditions, and likely some ozone problems as well, Conklin says.

A Code Orange air quality alert is out for Monday, and conditions aren't likely to improve anytime soon.

That means active children, adults and people with respiratory issues should limit outdoor activities.

You should also limit daytime driving and idling in your car.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and evening hours, but storms are not expected to be widespread.

You'll probably want one of those thunderstorms to cool you down - forecast highs are in the mid 90s by the end of the work week.
