GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

In an effort to raise money for the Special Olympics, local law enforcement will be on the roof of a Greenville Krispy Kreme for hours on Friday.

The annual "Cops on Top of a Doughnut Shop" fundraiser started at 6 a.m. at the North Pleasantburg Drive store.

Officers with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, Greenville City Police Department, and South Carolina Highway Patrol are working to raise $20,000 between Friday morning and Saturday at 9 p.m. They will also be giving out free doughnuts when donations are made.

They will spend 40 hours on the roof collecting donations from Krispy Kreme customers and anyone who wants to stop by to help. They will also have officers at the Woodruff Road location collecting donations in the drive-thru.

One hundred percent of donations go to support athlete programs in South Carolina, which offer year-round sports training and competitions for more than 22,000 kids and adults with disabilities.

If people who can't make it out to either Krispy Kreme during the 40-hour fundraiser want to donate, they can give online here.
