Two grants have been awarded to South Carolina and the sixth Congressional District according to House Assistant Democratic Leader and Congressman Jim Clyburn.

"Receiving these two grants in the 6th District is extremely beneficial to the citizens and to the local economy," Congressman Clyburn said.  "The ability to offer more job opportunities and access to this wonderful area is tremendous."

One of those grants will go to Hamilton-Owens Airport according to Clyburn. The Richland County-owned airport will receive a $3.8 million grant from the Department of Transportation.

The grant is to be used to extend the public airport's taxiway.

South Carolina will also receive a grant for $1.5 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency according to the announcement. The funds for this grant have been allocated under the Staffing for Adequate Fire Emergency Response (SAFER) program.

This grant is intended to support the hiring of firefighters and the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters.
