Newberry County Sheriff's Deputies arrested four men accused of stealing lawn and farm equipment overnight.

Deputies say the equipment was stolen near SC 34 and Plantation Acres Road, east of the City of Newberry which is an area that has been targeted recently.

Sheriff Lee Foster says a deputy patrolling the area observed a pickup truck pulling a lawn mover on a trailer and attempted to make a stop.  Sheriff Foster says when the driver did not stop, a pursuit ensued.

According to Foster, the vehicle entered the Plantation Acres neighborhood and came to a stop which is when four suspects exited and attempted to flee. Three were arrested right away. Deputies used a SLED bloodhound tracking unit and helicopter to find the fourth man hiding under a farmhouse on Piester Road at just before 8 a.m.

All four men are from Columbia.

Deputies arrested 51-year-old Albert Ray Boyd, Sr., 37-year-old Quentin Eugene Pendleton, 24-year-old Brion Trivell Thomas and 29-year-old Nicholas Theodore Whitener. They are awaiting a bond hearing at the Newberry County Detention Center.

Sheriff Foster wants to remind residents to remove keys from their equipment and lock up their vehicles and homes to prevent from being targeted.

Deputies have not released the name or description of any of the suspects.
