COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

Fire officials in Columbus County are investigating a possible early morning arson.

A passerby called 911 at 2:10 a.m. after spotting a double-wide mobile home on fire at 22132 Andrew Jackson Highway near Delco.

Columbus County Fire Marshall Scott Meritt said he doesn't think anyone was living at the home, which was badly damaged but not destroyed.

Meritt said accelerants may have been used to start the fire. He will send samples from the scene to the State Bureau of Investigation lab.

The chief of Acme-Delco Riegelwood Fire and Rescue estimates the damage at $30,000.
