Teapot museum attracting visitors from around the world

ELLOREE, SC (WIS) - The town of Elloree in Orangeburg County is transforming itself from an agricultural hub to an art center.

Many Cleveland Street businesses now offer art and antiques. But the most intriguing spot is not out front.

"I don't know why he started collecting," said Sybil Boland who helps run the Teapot Museum. "It was my husband's crazy idea."

The crazy idea of Dr. Julian Boland is now drawing visitors from around the world.

The mayor understands. He's a collector himself.

"It's an art," said Mayor Stan Busch. "Anything that attracts the people to Elloree and shows off the town, the more the merrier."

The Mannings came in from Switzerland and had to see the unusual sight in this unusual museum. When Gerda Manning walked into the museum and saw rows and rows of beaufful teapots, she was in awe.

"I think it's great!" Manning said. "I saw this in a travel book and had to come and see this."

Boland said there's over 3,000 tea pots on display.
