COLUMBIA, SC (WIS/AP) -

A former Richland County jail officer has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for killing his pregnant fiancee and setting her body on fire last year.

24-year-old Tristan Gist was sentenced Wednesday in a plea agreement in the March 2013 killing of 22-year-old Dierra Fisher.

Prosecutor Meghan Walker said Gist shot Fisher in the head while she was asleep in the couple's apartment.

Authorities say Gist put Fisher's body in a truck and took it to a secluded spot near a Richland County landfill and set the body on fire. She was 21 weeks pregnant.

Inside the car with Fisher's body were two young children, investigators said.

Prosecutors say the couple had argued and Gist was depressed they he could not afford to buy a house. Gist told investigators that Fisher had threatened to leave and take two preschool-age children with her.
