Kershaw Co. businesses cited for selling alcohol to minors

An undercover operation led to six Kershaw County businesses cited for selling alcohol to underage customers.

Sheriff James Matthews say deputies conducted the undercover operation Tuesday night. They sent people under 21 years old into 26 businesses to attempt to buy beer. If they were asked for identification, the kids presented ID that showed they were under 21.

Six businesses were cited:

Kangaroo Station located on Main Street in Elgin
Tuckers Country Store located on Springvale Rd. in Ridgeway
BP Station located on Wylie and West DeKalb Streets in Camden
Hot Spot located on Jefferson Davis Highway in East Camden
Kangaroo Station located at Mill and East DeKalb St. in Camden
Kangaroo Station located on Sumter Highway in Camden

A clerk who sold alcohol to underage customers is charged a fine of $672.50. If it is the first offense for the business, the fine is $500. The second offense is a $1,000 fine and third offense is a $1,500 fine with suspension of the beer and wine license.
