Newberry County Sheriff's Department moves into new facility

NEWBERRY, SC (WIS) -

It's been a long time coming and now the Newberry County Sheriff's Department has moved into its new permanent home.

The department has been out of a building for about the last eight years after mold and moisture issues caused them to move out of their old facility.

It took a long time to come up with a building due to lawsuits and several studies about what kind of new facility would work.

Since that time, staff members have been working out of trailers.

"There's just a sense of pride in everybody here, that we have something now that we can be proud of," said Chief Deputy Todd Johnson with the Newberry County Sheriff's Department. "Instead of being known as the trailer park sheriff's office, we now have a facility that we can be proud of and that Newberry County can be proud of."

Funds for the project were raised through a penny sales tax.
