Boy battling cancer receives big honor

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A Midlands boy battlingcancer has been named South Carolina's Children's Miracle Network HospitalsChampion.

Twelve-year-old KeldonHemmingway is one of 52 children in the US to receive this honor.

He was named the championambassador because of his courage and amazing attitude while dealing with aninoperable brain tumor.

He's a patient at PalmettoHealth Children's Hospital.

Keldon said he wants to help mentor otherkids going through a difficult diagnosis and time in their lives.

"I would never just say something andleave," Hemmingway said. "I would actually say this is what you're going toexpect.  Such and such and such andsuch.  And also, you know, not giveup.  You have to believe there is a cureor there is faith out there."

In November, Keldon and the other Championambassadors will travel to Washington D.C. and Orlando, Florida to share theirstories and raise awareness of the vital work taking place in children'shospitals.
