'Act of God' shakes Cayce residents, leaves damage in wake

Posted: Updated:

Neighbors on Sandy Lane in Cayce are cleaning up after a storm caused a lot of damage Tuesday afternoon.

"First, it was rain and then all of a sudden, you just heard a boom," said Mack Glenn, who lives on Sandy Lane.

"The wind just picked up and the rain was coming sideways, back and forth," said Rebecca McAuley. "Scared the crud out of me."

The quick storm knocked down trees and some power lines.

"I was scared. It was an act of God," said Glenn.

Greg McAuley was at work when the storm hit. His mom called to let him know his truck was damaged when a tree fell on it.

"I don't really want to say what I really said when it all happened. I was in a very bad mood," explained Greg McAuley.

Neighbors say the storm didn't seem to last more than a minute or two.

"All of a sudden, just trees falling everywhere, " said Glenn.

Some neighbors cannot stay in their homes until the damage is fixed.

"It's going to take a lot of cleaning up to do," said 10-year-old Zach Glenn.

Rebecca McAuley called tree removal companies Tuesday evening, but most were busy or closed for the day.

For now, neighbors are helping each other remove trees and survey the damage.
