Columbia Animal Shelter hosts Military Appreciation Day adoptions

Posted: Updated:

Some Midlands veterans have new pets this Memorial Day weekend.

The Columbia Animal Shelter hosted Military Appreciation Day Saturday.

All cats and dogs were free for active or retired military members.

The shelter still has lots of pets in need for forever homes.

"I came out here looking for cat he's so sweet," said Rosalee Byrd. "He just sits up in my lap. Came to me when I called him he tried to get down didn't even try to scratch me or anything. He's just a little sweetie."

The free adoptions did not include licensing and families could only adopt one pet.

The Columbia Animal Shelter, located on 127 Humane Lane, is open until 4 p.m.

A valid photo ID,  Military ID, DD-214 or NGB Form 22 must be presented at the time of the adoption.
