RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Two men were arrested after deputies spotted a vehicle believed to be involved in a violent purse snatching in Richland County.

Capt. Chris Cowan with the Richland County Sheriff's Department said deputies saw the vehicle Friday on Fernandina Road near St. Andrews and tried to pull the vehicle over.

Two men who were in the vehicle did not stop and tried to get away, Cowan said.

Cowan said then the driver of the vehicle crashed into a box truck and one of the men tried to run away.

Charles Jeffrey Williams, 40, and Ronald Horace Brigmon, 31, were taken into custody and transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

On May 22, a 62-year-old woman was loading groceries in her vehicle when a man grabbed her pocketbook at a Walmart in the 300 block of Killian Rd.

As the man drove away, the victim held onto the purse and was dragged alongside the vehicle.

The woman was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.

Williams was charged with armed robbery and first-degree assault and battery. Brigmon was charged with possession of stolen vehicle.
