Auburn Men's Golf Team Headed to Kansas for NCAA Championship

From Auburn Sports Information:

AUBURN, Ala. – After placing third in its regional last week, Auburn golf heads to Hutchinson, Kan., on Wednesday for the 2014 NCAA Championships. This year's event takes place at Prairie Dunes Country Club on a par-70, 6, 941-yard course.

"The kids are excited and they are ready to go," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "The greens are kind of slopey and undulated and we have to really flight our ball because (the wind) can really blow out there."

Auburn is playing in the NCAA Championships for the third straight season and the 19th time overall. Auburn tied for 15th at the 2012 championships at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles and tied for 13th at the 2013 championships at Capital City Club in Atlanta.

Senior Niclas Carlsson has led Auburn all season long. An All-SEC Second Team selection, he finished tied for seventh at the NCAA Auburn Regional and takes a 71.08 stroke average into the national championships.

Freshman Will Long, playing in the four spot, shot even-par at the NCAA Auburn Regional to tie for 11th. Sophomore Jake Mondy shot plus-6 to finish 27th, freshman Matt Gilchrest shot plus-13 to tie for 52nd and junior Daniel Stringfellow shot plus-18 to finish tied for 62nd as only 10 players shot below par at the regional.

Auburn will play its practice round on Thursday at 9 a.m. CT, starting on the 13th tee. The team will then be paired with UCLA and Southern Cal for Friday's and Saturday's rounds. Auburn's tee time on Friday is 7:20 a.m. from the 10th tee while the tee time on Saturday will be 12:40 p.m. on the first tee.

The 30 teams and six individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play Friday through Sunday. Following 54 holes of competition, the top 40 players and any ties will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine a 72-hole stroke play individual champion on Monday. The top eight teams after 54 holes of play will be placed into a bracket with the No. 1 seed playing the No. 8 seed, the No. 2 seed playing the No. 7 seed, the No. 3 seed playing the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 seed playing the No. 5 seed in match play, which takes place on Tuesday.
