Man beaten with baseball bat dies, 2 charged

NICHOLS, SC (AP) -

Two people have been charged in a weekend fight that resulted in the death of an Horry County man.

Horry County police say 60-year-old Jerome Bessent was hit several times on the head with an aluminum baseball bat during a fight Sunday morning at a home in the community of Nichols.

Bessent died from his injures early Monday at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

Authorities say 51-year-old Gearlene Delarosa of Nichols is being charged with voluntary manslaughter in the incident. In addition, 22-year-old Santana Goff, also of Nichols, is charged with accessory after the fact of a felony.

It was not immediately known if the two had attorneys.
