Autopsy confirms remains belong to woman involved in homicide

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Preliminary results of the autopsy regarding the skeletal remains, found in Florence County, have confirmed the manner of death is homicide, Coroner Keith Von Lutcken confirmed.

The autopsy also confirmed the remains are those of a woman.

The remains were found Wednesday off Papermill Road in Florence County, near the riverbank of the Great Pee Dee River.

Officials with the Florence County Sheriff's Office and Darlington County Sheriff's Office were on the scene Wednesday, in addition to Florence County Coroner Keith Von Lutcken. Horry County Police Department were also on the scene, Lt. Kegler confirmed.

"Yes, we went there based on the proximity of where the remains were found and the information we obtained during the course of the Angie Pipkin case," Kegler said. "Obviously it is way too early to assume anything, and we can not confirm any identity at this time," he added.

Skeletal samples have been sent to the State Law Enforcement Division's DNA Laboratory for analysis. Identity of the remains are pending those analysis. Other testing is being conducted as well.

In addition, DNA testing will done on the remains at MUSC. It has not been determined when the DNA results will be available.

Authorities were in wooded area where remains were found since 11 a.m. Wednesday.

People who work at campground off Papermill Road found the body and called authorities.
