COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

A daycare worker in Columbus County was arrested for allegedly biting a 5-month-old child in her care.

According to police reports, Joni McMillan, of Chadbourn, has been charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury and assault on a child younger than 12.

The incident reportedly happened May 8 at Sweet As Home Daycare, operated inside Sweet Home Baptist Church on Walter Todd Road in Clarendon.

According to police reports, McMillan bit the baby on the arm, breaking the skin. Scratches were also found on the baby's face.

McMillan has since been released from the Columbus County Detention Center after posting a $50,000 bond. She faced a judge for the first time May 12.

At this point, we can't confirm if McMillan still works at the daycare center.

WECT has reached out to everyone involved. The mother of the child and the director of the daycare center have declined to comment on the situation.

McMillan has not responded to our phone calls.
