LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Police believe a shooting on Monday in a neighborhood in the south end of Las Vegas may be the result of a home invasion.

Laura Meltzer of Las Vegas Metro police reported the shooting at 11:44 a.m. in the 100 block of Turtle Ridge Avenue, near Las Vegas Boulevard South and East Starr Avenue.

According to Meltzer, officers arrived to find a wounded man in a yard. He had been shot four times. The man was rushed to University Medical Center, where his condition was not immediately disclosed.

Metro police took the man they believe fired the shots into custody. He was referred to as a person of interest in the case.

"Our victim appears to have run from the scene with gunshot wounds and was going door to door, looking for someone to help until he finally got someone to call police for him," Metro's Officer David Valenti said.

Witnesses said the man who was taken into custody rents a house in the neighborhood and sped off in his car moments after shots were fired. He was detained for questioning.

Neighbors were asked to leave their homes during the investigation. The entire block was taped off.

"I'm so shocked. I've never seen anything like this before," one neighbor said.

Police were searching for another, unidentified person whom they referred to as a person of interest in the shooting.
