Coroner identifies homicide victim, shooter still at large

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has identified the man killed during a weekend shooting in Columbia.

Watts said 24-year-old Marcus A. Kennedy of Rockymount Road died from complications of a gunshot wound to the upper body after an incident early Sunday morning at a home about a mile north Columbia College.

An unidentified woman was also shot at the residence in the 1500 block of Cody Street, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Police were called to a home in the 1500 block of Cody Street around 1 a.m.

Witnesses told police that both victims, who did not reside at the location, were inside at the time of the shooting.

Kennedy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Richland County Coroner's Office is assisting the Columbia Police Department with the investigation.
