LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Two men who investigators said shot and killed a Lexington County man during a transaction that began on Craigslist have been charged with murder.
They are accused of shooting two brothers outside a home on Bushberry Road in Pelion on April 26. Twenty-nine-year-old Tycus Toland died. Sheriff James Metts said his brother was "seriously wounded."
Police arrested Justin Antonio Butler, 22, Friday in Muscle Shoals Alabama. According to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, charges against Butler include murder and first-degree burglary. Butler is awaiting extradition to Lexington County.
On Saturday, detectives contacted authorities in Fairfield, California about Terry Renee McClure, 26. He was wanted for murder, attempted murder, burglary and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. McClure was being held at the Solano County Justice Center on unrelated charges. When he is released, he will be extradited to Lexington County to face charges.
According to arrest warrants, Butler and McClure went to the Bushberry Road home on April 26 under an arrangement to buy a car. Toland and his 33-year-old brother were shot in the torso,"without provocation" according to Sheriff James Metts.
Toland's brother is listed in critical but stable condition at the hospital, where Metts said he is expected to recover.
"Detectives think Toland's brother previously met Butler some time within the past year through a mutual acquaintance," said Metts. They arranged via telephone conversation a meeting to discuss Butler buying a car from Toland's brother.
Metts says shortly after Butler and McClure arrived, Tycus Toland was shot in the front yard of the home and the brother was shot in the back yard.
