NEW YORK, NY (WIS) -

Clemson junior wide receiver Sammy Watkins has been selected by the Buffalo Bills with the fourth pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Watkins burst onto the college football scene very quickly in his freshman year at Clemson, catching 82 passes for over 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns. His ability was so noted that many had him pegged as a Heisman Trophy contender in his sophomore season.

However, off-the-field issues during the offseason and a drop in production on the field led to an average season for the receiver.

It was no problem for Watkins, however, as he quickly returned to his freshman form during his junior season with 101 receptions for 1,464 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Watkins' skills were particularly on display during the 2014 Orange Bowl as he torched the Ohio State secondary for 227 yards and two touchdowns. He was even named MVP of the game.
