Group raising money to send SC veterans to Normandy for D-Day 70th Anniversary

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A very special trip is coming up for a group of South Carolina World War II veterans.

Army widow Jeanne Palyok started a local non-profit solely to honor our brave men who fought in the European theater during World War II.

They're raising money to take 20 veterans, most of whom landed on Omaha Beach, back to Normandy, France for the upcoming 70th Anniversary of Operation Overlord, commonly known as D-Day.

"It really just came like lightening that I decided to do this, I've been involved with the army my whole life, practically," said Palyok. "I did the 40th anniversary and I saw how much that meant to them in the 50th and I said this is the last chance ... and I said I just have to do it."
