Columbia's city prosecutor has dropped charges against 27 people arrested for blocking an entrance to the State House garage in March.

According to SC Progressive Network Director Brett Bursey, the charges were dropped Tuesday morning.

The group blocked the legislators' entrance more than once to protest South Carolina's decision not to accept federal money to expand Medicaid.

"We were arrested to bring attention to our state's immoral refusal to accept Medicaid funding for our states poorest citizens," said the group's spokesperson, Rev. Tom Summers.

Twenty-seven of the 28 people ticketed had requested a jury trial.
