GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Transportation Security Administration announced that two loaded guns were discovered at Greenville-Spartanburg over the past several days.

On May 4, officials said a loaded .380 handgun was discovered in a passenger's carry-on bag.

On Monday, at 7:30 a.m., another loaded .380 was found with an extra magazine and 50 founds of ammunition at GSP.

TSA officials said airport police were notified and the passengers were cited on local charges.

The TSA said firearms may be transported in checked baggage provided they are declared to the airline, in a proper carrying case and unloaded. They said firearms are prohibited in carry-on bags.

"Passengers are responsible for the contents of bags they bring to the checkpoint," said Mark Howell, TSA spokesman. "Our advice is to look through bags thoroughly before coming to the airport to make sure there are no illegal or prohibited items."

In 2013, 12 firearms were found at GSP checkpoints. Nine have been discovered so far in 2014.
